Destination: High School Athletic Director
Hello, I am Tom Sporich and currently in my last semester at Tiffin University in the MBA program specializing in Sports Administration. I was born and raised in Warren, OH having graduated from Warren G. Harding High School where I lettered in golf and football. In fact my team just celebrated our 40th year reunion on winning the Class AAA (Division I) State Football Championship this past Fall. I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in Business Administration majoring in Accounting. In addition, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from the University of Akron and hold current licenses in Marketing Education and General Business (Grades 7-12).
I am currently employed by a German company by the name of Evonik Corporation and am responsible for the sales of raw materials into the adhesives industry. My territory encompasses the NAFTA region which includes Canada and the United States. I have been with Evonik since April 2014 and previously was employed by HB Fuller as a territory sales representative handling specific areas of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York for approximately seven years. Before that I owned and operated a fundraising company that offered printing and publishing capabilities to high school athletic departments that enhanced their game program print quality and generated higher streams of revenue. In addition, I have coached football at several Northeast Ohio high schools in the capacity of head coach, coordinator and freshman coach for over twenty five years.
To answer the question at the top, the position of high school athletic director involves skills better suited to a person with business experience as opposed to someone that used to teach art. I strongly believe that many high schools are agreeing with that theory and are seeking individuals with both a coaching and business skill set to assume the position of athletic director. With my extensive experiences in these areas along with the MBA - Sports Administration degree from Tiffin University, I know that I am extremely qualified for any Athletic Director's position that will be open.
