As the title describes, a decision was to be made on the course of action to take in regards to the mentorship program. Was the mentorship going to be at the collegiate level or at the high school level? The goal of entering into this hybrid program of a MBA and Sports Administration at Tiffin University was to eventually become an Athletic Director at the high school level. However, my neighbor is the Athletic Director at the University of Akron and this connection interested me. In addition, I have met the Athletic Director and personally know the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Baldwin Wallace University. In the end after thinking the situation through, it was best to intern at a local high school under the direction of the Athletic Director.
Knowing many Athletic Directors from my many years of coaching high school football, I reached out to a person that is highly respected and is the consummate professional in his field. That person is Mark McGuire and he is the Athletic Director at Solon High School in Solon, OH. I met Mark some years ago through a friend and colleague that hired him at Elyria, OH High School as their Head Football Coach. Knowing the integrity and organizational skills that Mark possesses, this was the best decision.
I reached out to Mark and we set up a meeting to discuss and map out the mentorship program.
